MORRIS TRUCK 8 CWT 4X2 WIRELESS PU (C. 1930s - 1940s) x1 IMAGE
Rare vintage photograph. The Morris Truck 8 cwt Wireless Pick-Up (PU) was produced from 1936 to about 1941 and played a significant role in military operations, particularly in desert conditions. The same rear body design was also utilized in variants of other vehicles such as the Humber truck, Canadian Ford F8, Chevrolet C8, and Dodge T212 D8A. The rear canvas and frame could be detached to create a ground wireless station, showcasing the vehicle's versatility.
Externally, the PU appears similar to its more robust counterpart, the 15 cwt CS8, but it is based on a lighter chassis with a 10-inch longer wheelbase and smaller wheels. With a cruising speed of 50 mph, the PU was fitted with a militarised version of the Morris 25 saloon car's 25 HP 6-cylinder engine, including a specialized military dust-proof updraft carburettor. Its wide-section 9.00 – 13-inch balloon tyres were designed to enhance off-road capability, making the PU a crucial asset for smaller military units.
This image has been restored from an original vintage negative. Significant blemishes have been addressed where possible and contrast has been adjusted to bring the image as close as possible to its original state. This collection is incredibly rare and old, potentially featuring prototypes, early versions, or variants.
